Volkswagen is offering a new 1.2 litre TSI engine for the Golf and Polo hatchbacks, designed for low fuel consumption and emissions.

Volkswagen Polo and Golf, mated with the 1.2 litre TSI engine, produces 103bhp and 175Nm of torque, and will be fitted to the Polo, Golf and Golf Plus models.

The new 1.2 litre TSI engine is based on an aluminium crankcase and the re-tuned direct injection provides smooth power development, low consumption and low emissions.

Volkswagen’s TSI engine technology marks its efforts for the smaller capacity cars. Volkswagen claims that TSI engines are highly efficient and low in emissions, by equipping the engines with a turbocharger.

The new 1.2 litre unit also uses friction optimization and lightweight construction to keep weight down and add to the efficiency of the engine and cars.

And the 1.4 litre TSI engine, the biggest, has already been awarded as the “Engine of the Year” award three years in a row since 2006.
