BMW has made an announcement to add two new engines to their X1 compact SUV range, bringing the number of engines available to six.
The new engine is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol unit, which produces 150bhp and 200Nm of torque, and will be fitted to the entry level X1 sDrive18i model. Mated to a six-speed manual gearbox, this enables the X1 SDrive18i to go from 0-100km/h in 9.7 seconds, and reach a top speed of 202km/h. If fitted to the optional six-speed automatic transmission, the time increases to 10.4 seconds for the century sprint, and top speed drops to 200km/h.

At the other end of the range, there is another new six-cylinder petrol engine that will be fitted to the X1 xDrive25i, and produces 218bhp and 277Nm of torque. Combined with BMW’s xDrive four-wheel-drive system and a six-speed automatic transmission, the new X1 xDrive25i is able to go from 0-100km/h in 7.9 seconds, and reach a top speed of 223km/h.
Other changes to the X1 range for 2010 include the inclusion of the new six-speed automatic transmission to the X1 xDrive18d, X1 sDrive18d, and the X1 sDrive20d models, while there are also five new body colors to choose from, Space Grey, Cashmere Silver, Tasman, Sparkling Bronze, and Graphite Blue metallic.
