Volkswagen has launched the CrossTour an that will join the CrossGolf and CrossPolo in its range of soft-roaders with raised ride heights.

Like the CrossGolf and CrossPolo, the CrossTouran also features the extra road clearance as well as plastic body cladding to give it a more rugged, off-road look.

The CrossTouran’s front and rear bumpers get extra black protection cladding that go along with the black grained protective strips on the doors, the chunky wheel arch extensions and the new side sills. The 17-inch alloy wheels and matt aluminium roof rails complete the exterior package.

The exterior package is being completed with the 17-inch alloy wheels and matt aluminium roof rails. The CrossTouran is not a proper off-roader despite the raised height and added rugged looks, with the car gaining new suspension springs which raise the car’s ground clearance by 20mm over the standard Touran MPV.

Interior, the CrossTouran has been updated, with new seat cover patterns along with decorative trim in stainless steel look and a leather steering wheel plus leather trim on gearlever knob and handbrake lever among the changes.

Like the standard Touran, the CrossTouran will be available with the same engines.

For racers in the FIA’s GT3 racing class, Mercedes-Benz is offering a GT3 version of its SLS AMG.

According to Norbert Haug, the Mercedes-Benz’s motorsport chief, “The Mercedes SLS AMG GT3 marks the beginning of a new era in Mercedes-Benz customer motorsport’. Haug said, this is an exciting and spectacular sports car for dedicated private teams and talented private drivers. AMG will work together with their tried-and-trusted sports and touring car partner HWA to put in place a motorsport customer department which will guarantee its motorsport customers hallmark Mercedes service.

In collaboration with HWA, the car is built by AMG. The SLS AMG GT3 uses a specially prepared 6.3-litre V8 engine with a sequential six-speed racing transmission with steering wheel shift paddles.

In order to make the car race-ready, Mercedes-Benz has also given the SLS AMG GT3 a series of upgrades, which includes a steel racing braking system with re-calibrated ABS, a roll cage, a 120-litre CFRP safety tank and a fire extinguisher.

According to Mercedes-Benz, the car can be entered in any FIA-sanctioned GT3 racing series, including the FIA GT3 European Championship, the ADAC GT-Masters and the endurance championship organized by the VLN, as well as the famous 24-hour races at the Nürburgring and Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium.

For Buyers, those who order the car now will receive them in time for the start of the 2011 racing season next February.

Mercedes-Benz has updated its S63 AMG luxury performance sedan a new 5.5-litre V8 bi-turbo engine, the same unit that was offered on the recently facelifted CL63 AMG luxury performance coupe.

The new engine replaces the outgoing 6.2-litre naturally-aspirated V8 unit, and combines direct petrol injection with bi-turbocharging and a start/stop system. The hand-built engine churns out 544bhp and 800m of torque, and if specified with the AMG Performance package, is capable of producing up to 571bhp and 900Nm of torque.

Mated to AMG’s Speedshift MCT 7-speed automatic transmission, the new engine enables the S63 AMG to go from 0-100km/h in 4.5 seconds, and reach its electronically-limited top speed of 250km/h. With the AMG Performance Pack, the 0-100km/h sprint time drops to 4.4 seconds, and top speed is upped to a still-electronically-limited 300km/h.

In order to differentiate AMG from the existing model, the new S63 AMG gets a few minor changes, including “V8 Biturbo” lettering on the mudguards and the new 19-inch alloy wheels fitted with 255/40 or 275/40 R19 tires.

Meanwhile, the interior gets a revamped instrument cluster with an “AMG V8 Biturbo” starting screen, while the standard PASSION leather upholstery has been enhanced with new, contrasting colour stitching.

Mercedes-Benz has given a few updates to its CL63 and CL65 AMG performance models with a new 5.5-litre bi-turbo V8 engine available.

In order to give them a slightly more aggressive look, both of the AMG models get minor styling tweaks, along with the redesigned front bumper with LED daytime running lights, the more “V”-shaped grille, a contoured hood, larger headlamps and a reworked rear bumper with newly styled tail pipes among the changes. AMG interior has got a new steering wheel, higher-quality trim materials and different colour options.

However, the biggest changes lie under the bonnet. The CL63 AMG gets a new 5.5-litre bi-turbo direct injection V8 engine that replaces the old naturally-aspirated 6.2-litre V8. Mated to AMG’s Speedshift 7-speed automatic transmission, the unit produces 536bhp and 800Nm of torque. This enables the car to go from 0-100km/h in 4.4 seconds, on to its electronically-limited top speed of 250km/h.

Along with the addition of the optional AMG Performance Pack, power output is further increased to 563bhp and 900Nm of torque. This drops the 0-100km/h sprint time to 4.3 seconds, and the electronically-limited top speed is raised to 300km/h. The upgraded CL63 AMG also gets three new systems, Direct-Steer, Torque Vectoring Brake and crosswind stabilization, as standard, which helps to improve handling and safety.

The CL65 AMG will be powered by the same 6.0-litre twin-turbo V12, but Mercedes-Benz has tweaked the unit to churn out an extra 17bhp, bringing power up to 621bhp. Torque remains at 1000Nm, and with a five-speed automatic gearbox, the CL65 AMG can accelerate from 0-100km/h in 4.2 seconds, on to its electronically-limited top speed of 300km/h.

Engine Control Unit (ECU), the most powerful computer on most cars, considering the engine-controlling is the most processor-intensive job on car. A control scheme (closed loop control) that ECU uses monitors outputs of a system to control the inputs to a system, managing the emissions and fuel economy of the engine (as well as a host of other parameters).

With the help of data collected from dozens of different sensors, the ECU knows everything from the coolant temperature to the amount of oxygen in the exhaust. And also performs millions of calculations each second, including looking up values in tables, calculating the results of long equations to decide on the best spark timing and determining how long the fuel injector is open.

With all these activities, the ECU ensure to lowest emissions and best mileage.

A modern ECU might contain a 32-bit, 40-MHz processor. It may not sounds fast as compared to the 500 – to 1,000-MHz processor that probably have in PC, but remember that the processor in car is running much more efficient code than the one in PC. The code in an average ECU takes up less than 1 megabyte (MB) of memory.

Comparing ECU with PC, it probably has at least 2 gigabytes (GB) of programs on computer — that’s 2,000 times the amount in an ECU.

In the Audi’s Sportback model series, the S5 Sportback is the top position placed model. The five-door coupe is powered by a highly efficient, supercharged V6 engine with an output of 245 kW (333 hp), delivering power to the wheels via the seven-speed S tronic and quattro drive. The innovative sport differential is available as an option.

The Audi S5 Sportback is powered by a three-liter V6 with a mechanically driven supercharger, which sits in the 90 degree V formed by the banks of the cylinders and produces up to 0.8 bar of pressure. Two downstream intercoolers lower the temperature of the compressed intake air for improved filling of the combustion chambers.

The six-cylinder unit, which displaces 2,995 cc, embodies the Audi philosophy that performance and efficiency are not mutually exclusive but perfectly complementary. With an engine delivering a constant 440 Nm of torque between 2,900 and 5,300 rpm, the Audi S5 Sportback sprints from zero to 100 km/h in just 5.4 seconds (provisional figure) and accelerates up to an electronically governed top speed of 250 km/h. The spontaneous response, powerful thrust and sonorous sound makes for a thrilling driving experience.

The supercharged V6 unit consumes only 9.7 litres (provisional figure) of fuel per 100 km on average – a top figure in this performance class. The top model comes standard with the seven-speed dual-clutch S tronic transmission and quattro permanent all-wheel drive with a slight rear wheel bias. Optionally available is the sport differential. The high-end rear-axle differential transfers the forces at the rear axle between the wheels as needed for even greater dynamism and stability.

The Audi S5 Sportback also comes with a sports-tuned chassis, 19-inch 5-parallel-spoke star design with 255/35 tires, and wheels up to 20 inches are available as options. The black brake calipers are emblazoned with S5 emblems. Dynamic steering is also standard. A strut brace provides the front section of the car with additional rigidity.

Jaguar Australia has revealed a special edition XK Coupe, not only to celebrate its 75th Anniversary but also Jaguar’s historic return to LeMans next weekend. At the end of June, the sales will begin, and only 10 units produced will be produced, which priced at $193,500 plus on-road costs each.

The Jaguar XK Coupe 75th Anniversary Edition is available in three colors only – Indigo Blue, Ultimate Black, and Liquid Silver. It will be distinguished by 20″ Kalimnos alloy wheels, chrome finish to the side power vents, and chrome tailpipe finishers.

Suzuki has revealed first official details on the third generation Swift, which will go on sale this autumn. The new Swift comes with new styling, impact safety, driving performance, handling, improved fuel consumption, and significantly lower emissions. The vehicle will be built in the Magyar Suzuki Corporation production facility at Esztergom, in Hungary.

The new Swift will be powered by a new 1.2-liter petrol engine incorporating Dual VVT (Variable intake and exhaust valve timing) that delivers a total of 94 HP at 6,000rpm and 118Nm at 4,800rpm. It consumes the fuel on the combined cycle is 56.5mpg. It also comes with a new body shell lighter and stiffer than before.

Suzuki will also release a 1.3-liter diesel engine in UK at the beginning of 2011. This engine emits 109g/km and has an impressive combined fuel consumption of 67.3mpg, which figures out much better than the 119g/km and 62.8mpg from the outgoing Swift DDiS.

The 2011 Suzuki Swift sees a longer bonnet line and larger head lamps and tail lamps to add to the already taller, longer, and wider body for this model. According to Suzuki, they will use black as its keynote color with accents of silver throughout the car.

The Mondeo executive sedan has got two new engines by Ford, which includes a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol EcoBoost engine as well as a 2.0-litre TDCi diesel.

The first new engine (new 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol EcoBoost engine) is an all-aluminium 2.0-litre petrol EcoBoost turbocharged unit that produces 203bhp and 300Nm of torque, and enables the Mondeo to go from 0-100km/h in 7.9 seconds, and reach a top speed of 231km/h.

The new engine, which replaces the previous 2.3-litre unit, has an improved fuel economy of 7.7 litres per 100km, and also comes with Ford’s PowerShift six-speed dual-clutch gearbox. The new transmission is also available with the other new engine being offered for the Mondeo.

The 2.0-litre TDCi diesel unit arrives in three variants, producing 115bhp, 140bhp or 163bhp. All versions of the new diesel engine come with the PowerShift gearbox as standard, while the existing 2.0-litre Duratorq TDCi units with either 140bhp or 163bhp has the dual-clutch transmission as an option.
