BMW will bombard the market with diesel variants next month, followed by new model ranges in the pipeline for later in the year.

In December, the avalanche of new models kicks off with the diesels, comprising: 118d hatch, 123d coupe, 123d convertible, 320d coupe & convertible, 330d coupe & convertible and 320d touring. Besides BMW will launch the 118d convertible, but it may not reach to the market early new year.

The cavalcade of new diesels presages other new model releases throughout 2010. On the SUV front, BMW will launch high-performance models, the X6M in December and the X5M in January — with the compact X1 range happening along in April.

At the Frankfurt Motor Show, the 5-series GT crossover attracted a lot of attention, which is due in March, with the new (F10 generation) 5 Series sedan following around July. A Touring (wagon) version of that car will join the range in the fourth quarter of 2010.

Coming next month, the diesel variants provide enhanced fuel efficiency and paint a picture of BMW as a company committed to reduce the global climate change and wastage of non-renewable resources. In this regard, the diesel models complement the EfficientDynamics strategy the manufacturer is promoting for its model range — petrol variants included.

According to announcement from company, its EfficientDynamics-tweaked Z4 model is now available in the country with the combined brake energy regeneration with low-rolling-resistance tyres, an “Optimum shift” indicator, electric power steering and an alternator that charges only on the engine overrun, the Z4’s fuel consumption is reduced by 0.7L/100km for the Z4 sDrive23i and sDrive30i variants.

The fuel reduction for the Z4 sDrive35i, which also features high-precision fuel injection is 0.4L/100km. Fuel consumption for the entry-level Z4 sDrive23i variant has been reduced from 9.2L/100km to 8.5L/100km (manual) or from 8.9L/100km to 8.2L/100km (auto).
