Auto Decor: Subaru Exiga 2.0GT tuned by STI

Monday, October 5th, 2009

The Subaru Technica International, the Japanese automaker, has recently announced that they are planning to bring an STI tuned Exiga 2.0 GT multi passenger vehicle to the upcoming Tokyo Motor Show.

The Exiga has no oversized rear wings or gaudy racing stripes adorning the tuner vehicle, instead the full size minivan was covered in one of the automaker’s Satin White Pearl paint, given a set of trick headlamps with an attractive blue bar separating the front and corner lights while the large grill complete with the new Subaru crossbar that can be found on almost all of their new cars.

The STI upgrades include a sporty front lip spoiler, an STI tuned dual exhaust and a set of polished 17inch BBS rims lifted from an old WRX STI that are connected to a sport tuned set of springs and dampeners that will make the all wheel drive minivan handle more like a sports car.

This distinctive seven seat touring concept will add a bit of enthusiasm to the full size MPV segment and in true Subaru fashion will provide an excellent fun to drive performance value with the practicality of an extremely spacious interior. There is no word as of yet if STI will upgrade the 2.0 Liter turbocharged boxer engine to go along with the new car’s exterior styling and up rated suspension components in order to create and all around performance MPV.

Saturday, October 3rd, 2009

Toyota unveils its first dedicated hybrid sedan at the 2009 Tokyo Auto Show, a sister model to the Lexus HS 250h that will sport a more powerful engine than the Prius hatchback.

The new sedan will be named as the Toyota Sai, which will be on sale in Japan on Oct. 20, according to Toyota Motor Corp. After Toyota Prius, the Toyota Sai will be the second model, which will be marketed under hybrid concept.

It is not yet clear whether the Sai will go on sale in US.

Japan dealer cleared that the same platform and hybrid drivetrain as the Lexus HS 250h will be shared by the Sai as well. That car, Lexus’ first hybrid-only ride, arrived in Japanese showrooms in July.

In mid-September, the HS 250h went on sale in the U.S.

The Sai will be mated with the same 2.4-liter gasoline engine, bigger than the 1.8-liter powerplant in the Prius, but its exterior and interior will differ from the HS 250h.

It shares mechanical underpinnings with the HS 250h, the Sai is expected to get a 147-horsepower 2.4-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine, which is significantly larger and more powerful than the 98-hp 1.8-liter unit in the Prius.

Toyota has not announced pricing.
