Auto News: Official statement by UMW Toyota Motor regarding recalls in North America

An official media statement has been released by UMW Toyota Motor regarding the ongoing recall issues faced by Toyota abroad.

Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), United States released a media statement of safety recall campaign on Jan 21, 2010, involving 2.3 million vehicles affecting eight Toyota models. TMS also released a follow-up media statement on 26 January, 2010 regarding the suspension of sales of selected models.

UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd would like to emphasize that they have received confirmation from our principal, Toyota Motor Corporation, Japan that all Toyota and Lexus models sold by UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd are not affected by this recall exercise.

The accelerator pedal components of the affected models used in the US markets are different from the Toyota and Lexus models sold in Malaysia by UMW Toyota Motor.

Auto Tune: Volkswagen Golf GTI tuned by RevoZport

The latest Volkswagen Golf GTI has been given a new tuning package by the Hong Kong-based tuners RevoZport in order to improve its performance.

The Golf GTI RZR called new package features performance upgrades as well as cosmetic enhancements. RevoZport has increased the Golf GTI’s power output by 70bhp under the hood, to 270bhp. There is also a new vented carbon-kevlar bonnet, which weighs in at an ultralight 4kg.

Exterior of the Gulf GTI, RevoZport has added a new front bumper, adjustable splitter, and LED lighting. There are also fender flares to complement the side fenders, while a new rear bumper, with adjustable diffuser, is also available.

Other modifications include carbon fibre wing mirror housings and a carbon fibre rear spoiler to match the carbon-kevlar bonnet. Other than carbon fibre, RevoZport also uses Pultrudeed Fibre Reinforced Plastic in order to cut weight.
