Auto Launch: Nissan unveils the new Micra

Nissan has revealed its new Micra, or March in Asian markets, city car at the Geneva Motor Show, which will be in the market for sale later this market.

According to Nissan designer Makoto Yamane, the fourth generation Micra/March is set to be a truly global car, with Nissan planning to sell the city car in 160 different markets worldwide. Its face had to look stylish and have an air of sophistication to it.

The new Micra feature body-colored mouldings, a larger front bumper with one-piece radiator grille, and a flatter rear, but otherwise retain the same general shape as its predecessor.

Nissan has also made the car “slightly longer and marginally lower”, which results in a longer wheelbase, and thus an increase in cabin space, while still retaining a tight turning radius of 4.5 metres.

According to market, the engine choices may vary but Europe will only get two engines. The first is a brand new 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine that produces 78bhp and 108Nm of torque. The other is a supercharged direct injection 1.2-litre engine with start/stop function that produces 96bhp and 142Nm of torque. The Micra comes with either a five-speed manual transmission or a new CVT unit.

The new Micra has been loaded with equipments such as the Nissan Connect touch-screen infotainment unit, sat-nav, glass roof, and the intelligent key. There are also reverse sensors, and a parking assist system with three settings to help amateur, normal, and expert drivers squeeze into tight parking spots.

The new Micra/March will go on sale in Thailand later this month, with other markets expected to get the car shortly after. European sales will commence in November.

Auto Tune: 2010 Honda Civic

The Honda Civic, redesigned in 2009, gets refreshed exterior and interior styling features comprised of updated headlight and taillight combination; new alloy wheel designs for Civic EX, Civic EX-L and Civic Si; and updated seating cloth materials for a more premium interior feel. For the sedan version prices are ranging from $15,655 to $25,340, and for the coupe version from $15,455 to $24,255.

The 2010 Civic (both sedan and coupe versions) are powered by a 1,8 liter inline 4-Cylinder engine with a total output of 140 hp. The SI versions get a 2,0 liter engine with an output of 197 hp and 6-speed manual one. The standard model gets either a 5-speed manual transmission, or a 5-speed automatic one.

The technologies line-up includes: Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure; side curtain airbags; driver’s and front passenger’s side airbags with a passenger-side Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS); and dual-stage, dual-threshold driver’s and front passenger’s airbags (SRS).
