Auto News: Zone 1 and Premier Walkabout ticketholders now enjoy an enhanced experience at the Marina Bay Street Circuit

Thursday, April 22nd, 2010

Race promoter Singapore GP has made an announcement that the Singapore Flyer will be fully integrated into Zones 1 and 2 of the circuit park for the 2010 FORMULA 1 SINGTEL SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX.

It will allow Zone 1 and Premier Walkabout ticketholders complete access to the Singapore Flyer grounds. The partnership with Singapore Flyer allows grandstand and hospitality suite ticketholders at the Pit, Turn 1, Turn 2 and Republic (Turn 3) Grandstands, as well as Formula One Paddock Club and Premier Walkabout spectator’s unlimited rides (subject to capacity) on the giant observation wheel.

Paddock Club and hospitality suite guests will have dedicated express lanes to board the Singapore Flyer, which offers a unique vantage point of the Marina Bay Street Circuit some 165 meters above the track. The new integrated layout further enables Zone 1 ticketholders to better explore the Circuit Park, which has also been expanded to include the Double Helix Bridge this year.

New Double Helix Bridge offers a fantastic panoramic view of the city skyline and selected sections of the track. For convenience, a new gate exclusively for zone 1 ticket holders (including Premier Walkabout) will be installed on the 280-meter long pedestrian bridge, linking the Marina Bay Sands Integrated Resort to the Circuit Park.

Enhancing further the spectator’s experience, Singapore GP will be incorporating live entertainment at the Singapore Flyer premises, such as the outdoor amphitheatre, as well as bleachers* at strategic locations along the trackside for Premier Walkabout ticketholders to enjoy excellent views of the race and the pit entry.

All the Zone 1 ticket holders will continue to have access not only to the exclusive offerings in that zone, but also access to Zone 4’s main entertainment stage.

Wednesday, April 21st, 2010

The famous Nürburgringin has been lapped by an electric-powered Mini E under 10 minutes, clocking in a time of 9 minutes and 51.45 seconds.

Now, Mini has become the first manufacturer to run a fully-electric powered car around the famous Nürburgring-Nordschleife race track, and the Mini E Race lapped the 20.8km circuit in 9 minutes 51.45 seconds. The car was driven by former DTM race car driver Thomas Jäger, and reached a top speed of 187km/h during its run.

The Mini E Race test car is powered by the same 204bhp electric motor as the standard Mini E, which gets its power from lithium-ion batteries. Among the modifications to the E Race include a new helical gearbox with a longer gear ratio as well as tuned engine management software.

Among other changes, it includes a “special lightweight body”, a roll cage and performance brakes, suspension and tyres, while a carbon fibre rear wing and various diffusers help improve the aerodynamics of the car.

According to BMW Group’s Peter Krams, who led the project, the aim of this unique undertaking was to provide an impressive showcase of the great potential of the MINI E and its environment-friendly drive concept.
