Auto Engine: Direct Injection And E85 Capability Coming To Corvette, CTS-V

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

Currently, General Motors’ LS seriesof V-8 engines enjoy the status of being one of the most popular powerplant designs in history, appearing in models all across the globe and available in several different variations.

In order to ensure the engine’s viability in a world of tighter fuel economy and emissions regulations, GM is investing more than $890 million to produce a new generation of fuel efficient truck and car engines and in the process also create or retain more than 1,600 jobs.

Next generation small block engine family will have improved fuel efficiency through direct injection and an all-new advanced combustion system design. The new engine family will rely exclusively on aluminum engine blocks, which are lighter and contribute to the improved fuel efficiency.

In addition to being E85 ethanol capable, these engines are being designed with the capability to meet increasingly stringent criteria emissions standards expected throughout this decade.

And the fourth-generation of small block engines at present can be found in models such as the Chevrolet Corvette, Cadillac CTS-V and the GMC Yukon. Specifics about the new engine capabilities as well as product applications will be shared at a later date.

Auto News: 2011 Volkswagen Tiguan Facelift

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

The Volkswagen Tiguan has been in production only for a little over two years but a facelift for the compact SUV is planned. In order to bring the styling of the Tiguan in line with the rest of Volkswagen family, the changes are designed in such a manner.

Other models getting the same corporate styling treatment include the recently unveiled Phaeton flagship sedan and the 2011 Touareg SUV.

Among the changes to the Tiguan, the cosmetic changes will be the main with a redesigned front grille and new bumpers, plus a more pedestrian-friendly reshaped bonnet. As per the revealed previous spy shot, the rear of the Tiguan will remain unchanged. This latest computer-generated rendering gives a good indication as to what the final version may look like when it hits the streets later this year.

The powertrain lineup will also likely be revitalized, with a range of more fuel-efficient engines introduced in line with more stringent fuel economy and emissions regulations.

A hybrid variant may also be introduced, though its release wouldn’t be for several years still and possibly not until the launch of the second-generation of the model.

The facelifted Tiguan could expect to make its debut late this year as a 2011 model.
