Auto News: New Porsche Cayenne is open for bookings

Tuesday, May 4th, 2010

Stuttgart Auto Pte Ltd will begin to take booking for the car due to the great anticipation and demand for the new Cayenne, with immediate effect at both Porsche Centre Singapore showrooms.

According to Mr. Karsono Kwee, Executive Chairman of Stuttgart Auto Pte Ltd, the new Cayenne is now more sporty, more dynamic and efficient. We are excited and are expecting a very strong take-up for the new Cayenne models. One thing is for sure, the new Cayenne models are guaranteed to surprise, experience it.

In June 2010, the Cayenne is making its Singapore debut with up to five models. Led by the Cayenne S Hybrid, the first Porsche with hybrid drive and the cleanest model throughout Porsche’s entire portfolio, all Cayenne models in the new generation will be trendsetters in efficiency and performance in their respective segments.

Like every Porsche, the new Cayenne has been developed according to the principles of “Porsche Intelligent Performance “: more power on less fuel, greater efficiency and lower CO2 emissions.

The highlight of this change in generations is the world debut of the highly efficient Cayenne S Hybrid consuming a mere 8.2 litres/100 kilometres with 333-bhp three-litre supercharged V6 and 47 bhp synchronous electric motor, which offers all the performance of an eight-cylinder, with overall system output of 380 bhp.

The entry-level model is the 3.6 litre V6 Cayenne, with 300 bhp. The Cayenne Diesel, with its three-litre V6 delivering maximum output of 240 bhp and peak torque of 550 Newton-metres, consumes 20 per cent less fuel than before. Likewise, the high-torque Cayenne S with its 4.8 litre V8 and Cayenne Turbo, with its 4.8-litre V8 biturbo shows a significant decrease in fuel consumption to 10.5 litres/100 kilometres and 11.5ltr/100 kilometres respectively. At the same time, engine output of the Cayenne S is now 400 bhp versus the former 385 bhp and that of the Cayenne Turbo is now 500 bhp.

Among other things, the fuel consumption reduction is attributable to the new eight-speed Tiptronic S with Auto Start Stop and the wide spread of gear increments, thermal management on the engine and the transmission cooling, on-board network recuperation, variable engine cut-off in overrun and intelligent lightweight construction. The combination of lightweight materials and the overall intelligent vehicle concept results in weight reduction. This has positive results not just in fuel consumption and CO2 but also in agility and handling.

And the Cayenne series continues to remain among Porsche’s top selling models and the new generation Cayenne has already generated strong demand in pre-order bookings.

The prices of the new Cayenne models in Singapore are base car prices including the optional tiptronic gearbox, GST and registration fees. Prices are subject to change without prior notice, terms and conditions apply:

Cayenne SGD 235,888

Cayenne Diesel SGD 242,888

Cayenne S SGD 297,888

It’s the rumor that the Camaro Convertible will finally be launched in the first half of next year, but insider sources have revealed that a significantly revised interior is also in the pipeline.

Interior, the current model is almost universally derided for its average fit-and-finish, bland styling and cheap materials, something Chevrolet’s designers will certainly be hoping to rectify. According to the sources, the few details have been revealed but the dash will be the primary focus for designers.

According to the rumors, the officials decided to delay this car until after the arrival of the Convertible so as not to step on the toes of the new drop-top.

And the high-performance Z28 will also appear for the 2012 model year. According to previous reports, the new Z28 will come complete with the Cadillac CTS-V’s supercharged 6.2-liter LSA V-8, a six-speed manual and 556 horsepower on tap.
