Auto Tune: Peugeot adds six-speed automatic gearbox to 308CC 1.6 Turbo

Peugeot has given an upgraded 1.6-litre turbocharged engine to its 308CC convertible that produces 156bhp, as well as a new six-speed automatic transmission.

The gearbox will be mated to a new 1.6-litre turbocharged engine that produces 156bhp. The combination replaces the previous 140bhp 1.6-litre Turbo powerplant with the 4-speed automatic gearbox.

The new engine and transmission means improved performance for the 308CC, with the 0-100km/h sprint now taking 9.8 seconds instead of 12.4 seconds. Top speed has also been increased from 204km/h to 211km/h.

Fuel economy has also been improved, with the new 308CC 1.6 Turbo now returning a combined fuel economy figure of 7.7 litres per 100km, an improvement from the previous model’s figure of 8.1 litres per 100km.

Auto News: Fiat to group Abarth, Alfa Romeo and Maserati together

The Abarth, Alfa Romeo and Maserati brands amalgamated under a single group, according to the announcement of the Fiat Group.

Sergio Marchionne, the Fiat Group’s boss announced the decision, and the new group for the Abarth, Alfa Romeo and Maserati brands will be headed by German Harald J. Wester. Wester will also retain his position as Chief Technical Officer for Fiat Group and Fiat Group Automobiles and Chief Executive Officer of Maserati and Abarth.

According to Marchionne, the purpose of bringing the Alfa Romeo, Maserati and Abarth brands under the same leadership is to emphasize and leverage the value of the shared qualities of the three brands in terms of their sporting characteristics and performance.

Other changes within the Fiat Group pertaining to the new shake-up is the appointment of former Volkswagen and Audi executive Sergio Cravero as Product Portfolio Planning & Product Concept of Fiat Group Automobiles, who gives up his position as CEO of Alfa Romeo to Wester.
